Welcome to Acento. These Terms of Use ("Terms") govern your access to and use of the Acento application, website, and related services (collectively, the "Service") provided by Acento ("we," "our," or "us"). By accessing or using the Service, you agree to be bound by these Terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the Service.
1. Eligibility
You must be at least 13 years old (or the minimum age required in your jurisdiction) to use the Service. By using Acento, you represent that you meet this requirement. If you are under 18, you must have the consent of a parent or legal guardian.
2. Account Registration
- You may need to create an account to access certain features of the Service.
- You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your login credentials and for all activities under your account.
- You agree to provide accurate, current, and complete information during registration and to update it as necessary.
- We reserve the right to suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms or are inactive for an extended period.
3. Description of the Service
Acento is a language learning platform that helps users learn and improve accents through speaking-first practice. The Service includes:
- Guided accent training lessons using audio-based, listen-and-repeat methods.
- AI-powered pronunciation analysis and real-time feedback.
- Spaced repetition systems for long-term retention.
- A library of 50+ regional accents across multiple languages.
We may modify, update, or discontinue any part of the Service at any time without prior notice.
4. Subscriptions & Payments
4.1 Free & Paid Plans
Acento offers both free and premium subscription plans. Free plans provide limited access, while paid plans unlock the full range of accents, lessons, and features.
4.2 Billing
- Paid subscriptions are billed on a recurring basis (monthly or annually) through the applicable app store or payment processor.
- Prices are subject to change with reasonable notice. Any price changes will apply from the next billing cycle.
4.3 Cancellation & Refunds
- You may cancel your subscription at any time through the app store or your account settings. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period.
- Refunds are governed by the policies of the applicable app store (Apple App Store, Google Play Store). We do not provide direct refunds for subscription fees already charged.
5. User Conduct
When using the Service, you agree not to:
- Use the Service for any unlawful or unauthorized purpose.
- Attempt to reverse-engineer, decompile, or disassemble any part of the Service.
- Distribute, modify, or create derivative works based on our content without permission.
- Use bots, scrapers, or automated tools to access the Service.
- Interfere with or disrupt the integrity or performance of the Service.
- Upload or transmit viruses, malware, or other harmful code.
- Impersonate any person or entity, or falsely state or misrepresent your affiliation.
6. Voice Data & Recordings
During practice sessions, the Service may record your voice to provide pronunciation feedback. By using the Service:
- You consent to the temporary processing of your voice recordings for pronunciation analysis.
- Voice recordings are processed in real time and not permanently stored unless you explicitly opt in to contribute to our research program.
- If you opt in, your anonymized recordings may be used to improve our AI models. You can opt out at any time in app settings.

7. Intellectual Property
7.1 Our Content
All content on the Service — including but not limited to text, audio, graphics, logos, software, and lesson materials — is the property of Acento or its licensors and is protected by copyright, trademark, and other intellectual property laws. You may not reproduce, distribute, or create derivative works from our content without prior written permission.
7.2 Your Content
You retain ownership of any content you submit to the Service (e.g., feedback, suggestions). By submitting content, you grant us a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to use, reproduce, and display such content for the purpose of operating and improving the Service.
8. Disclaimers
- The Service is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied.
- We do not guarantee that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or free of viruses or other harmful components.
- Acento is a supplemental language learning tool. We do not guarantee fluency, accent mastery, or any specific results from using the Service.
- AI-generated pronunciation feedback is for educational purposes only and may not always be 100% accurate.
9. Limitation of Liability
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, Acento and its officers, directors, employees, and agents shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, including but not limited to loss of profits, data, or other intangible losses, arising from your use of or inability to use the Service.
Our total liability to you for all claims arising from the Service shall not exceed the amount you paid to us in the 12 months preceding the event giving rise to the claim.
10. Indemnification
You agree to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless Acento and its affiliates from and against any claims, damages, losses, liabilities, and expenses (including reasonable attorneys' fees) arising from your use of the Service or your violation of these Terms.
11. Termination
We may suspend or terminate your access to the Service at any time, with or without cause, and with or without notice. Upon termination:
- Your right to use the Service will immediately cease.
- We may delete your account data in accordance with our Privacy Policy.
- Sections that by their nature should survive termination (e.g., Intellectual Property, Limitation of Liability, Indemnification) will remain in effect.
12. Governing Law
These Terms shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the State of Delaware, United States, without regard to its conflict of law provisions. Any disputes arising under these Terms shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts located in Delaware.
13. Dispute Resolution
In the event of a dispute, you agree to first attempt to resolve it informally by contacting us at legal@acento.app. If the dispute is not resolved within 30 days, either party may proceed with binding arbitration under the rules of the American Arbitration Association.
14. Changes to These Terms
We reserve the right to modify these Terms at any time. We will provide notice of material changes by posting the updated Terms on this page and updating the "Last updated" date. Your continued use of the Service after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms.
15. Severability
If any provision of these Terms is found to be unenforceable or invalid, that provision shall be limited or eliminated to the minimum extent necessary, and the remaining provisions shall remain in full force and effect.
16. Entire Agreement
These Terms, together with our Privacy Policy, constitute the entire agreement between you and Acento regarding the Service and supersede any prior agreements.
